Metal Mouth

Yesterday was Isaac dental appointment. This is his first major procedure since he finished treatments a few months ago. The radiation pretty much killed his baby teeth and since baby teeth are crucial to the growth of the permanent teeth extensive dental work needed to be done to preserve the baby teeth for as long as possible. After their initial consultation with the dentist is was determined that the deterioration was so extensive that metal caps would need to be put at least on all his bottom teeth but that white veneer caps would be used on the top. Tammy has been talking to him about getting his new silver teeth. She told him that people pay a lot of money to get silver teeth now days and has been talking to him about how cool he is going to look when they are done. He will have these caps until he loses his baby teeth in a couple of years.

He was in surgery for 3 hours yesterday because once they got him to sleep and were able to do an even more extensive exam they discovered that the damage was much worse then their first diagnosis. He had to have 4 metal caps on the bottom and four on the top and they rest they were able to use white veneer. The dentist was so sweet and since they had to do metal on the top she lined the tooth with metal but then filled it with white so that the metal wouldn’t be as noticeable. By the time he was out of surgery and in recovery his lips were so swollen that it looked like he had to slabs of raw meat for lips. When I saw him last night the swelling had gone down considerably, but he was still having some difficulty talking, but it could also be that he was completely drugged and probably still didn’t have a lot of feeling in his mouth yet. As much as I hate to say this, he is so cute when he stumbles around in a drug induce stupor. He can get some major bed hair now so that makes it eve cuter.

Maybe at a later date, I can get him to pose for pictures so you all will be able to see his pretty new teeth.
